16 days Itinerary

The best tour is a program that takes enough time and a number of activities in the country. The best of Uganda is a combination of the eastern with the western circuits. Travelers will have the cultural experience of the; Kalamoja region, the photographic safari in Kidepo, Murchison falls, queen Elizabeth and lake Mburo National Parks; the eco-tourism primate activities.

In all, this is a learning opportunity for those travelers who wish to get deeper knowledge of what Uganda offers in terms habitants, culture and landscapes

Each day's activity

DAY 1-Entebbe/Kampala.

On your arrival at Entebbe international airport in Uganda you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred for overnight in BB to the hotel cassia/protea/airport view hotel/lake Victoria/imperial golf view hotel.

DAY 2 -The source of the Nile.

After breakfast drive east wards to Jinja town on shores of Lake Victoria where you find the source of the Nile, discovered by J Speke in 1864.

You may go for water sports and nature, like white water rafting along river Nile for half day, one of the most exciting and safest the world. Afternoon boat cruise on the Nile for 2 hours, mountain bike circuit for 2hours lunch included. Visit the source of the River Nile. Proceed to Mount Elgon at Sipi Falls. Dinner and overnight at Sipi River Lodge or Rafiki lodge Sipi.

DAY 3-The Sipi Falls trekking-Moroto.

After an early breakfast you will trek through the Sipi Falls characterized by four spectacular falls along river Sipi, flowing down the Mount Elgon. The area is particularly panoramic with view of the Karamoja valley. We will go through the daily life of atipical African village. Lunch and in the afternoon proceed Moroto the capital town of Karamoja. Dinner and overnight at Karatunga Guest House.

DAY 4-Karamoja – Matheniko - Tepeth.

In the afternoon visit the communities of the Matheneko of the plains. They are semi nomadic people and cattie keepers, known in the past for their raiding the cattle of the neighboring tribes. Their life style is slowly changing to residential agriculturalists. Visit their homestead to view the style of life. Watch their traditional dances and clothes. Visit acient rock paintings 40km from Moroto at about 1hour drive if time allows. In the evening back to Moroto and visit the Karamoja museum and local market. Dinner and overnight at Karatung Guest House/Moroto Hotel.

DAY 5-Moroto - Kidepo Valley National Park.

After breakfast, proceed northwards to Kidepo valley national park. It got its name from the river that traverse this region at the border between Sudan and Kenya. It is one of the most unspoilt, pure wild places remaining in Africa. Lunch in the route. Dinner and overnight at Adera Lodge Kidepo ©( supplement for Apoka Safari Lodge) or Kidepo Savannah Lodge. Full board.

Day 6-Kidepo valley national park.

After breakfast take game drives along the trails of the national park and expect to explore the region of the river Narus valley.

Kidepo contains one of the most exciting fauna of any Ugandan parks, with over 80 species of mammals several of which are restricted only to Kidepo, like cheetah, stripped hyena and caracal. Bird list goes over 465 species. Apart from the game drive, one may include a visit to the local Karimojong homestead. Full board and overnight at Adere Lodge Kidepo, ( supplement for Apoka Safari Lodge) or Kidepo Savannah Lodge(E).

Day 7-Murchison Falls National Park.

After breakfast, last activity in Kidepo national park, proceed to Murchison falls national park, the biggest national park of Uganda. Lunch in the route. Dinner and overnight at: Paraa safari lodge/ Murchison River Lodge ( cottage)/Pakuba Safari Lodge /Bwana Tembo Lodge.

Day 8-Murchison Falls National Park.

After breakfast, go for morning game drive in the northern bank of the Nile. Expect to see elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes waterbucks, sported hyenas, oribs, leopards bushbucks. Drive back to the lodge for Lunch. In the afternoon, have a fascinating boat cruise along the magnificent River Nile to the bottom of Murchison falls. Expect to see hippos crocodiles, variety of birds.

You may or not hike to the top of the falls depending of your wish.

At the top of the falls, water forces its way through a magnifying gorge of about 7 meters and falls for over 45 meters creating a trademark of rainbow.

Retire for a night and dinner at the lodge.

Day 9-Murchison falls – Budongo Forest.

After breakfast, have game drive in Murchison Park. Have lunch at the lodge or proceed to Bugoma forest and lunch at Budongo eco lodge. Either retire for a night or have chimpanzee trekking a long Kanio Pabid trails.

Day 10-Budongo – Kibale National Park.

Have an early chimpanzee trekking and expect to see varieties of tree species, birds and some small wild animals.

Back to the lodge for breakfast and set off to Kibale national park. Stopover for lunch in the route.

Overnight and dinner at: primate lodge (standard cottages)/Chimpanzee guest house/ Crater Safari Lodge/ Chimpundu Lodge.

Day 11-Kibale - Queen Elizabeth National Parks.

After breakfast, have nature walk in Kibale forest national park for experiencing the rain tropical forest, birding and especially as you encounter the chimpanzees in the their natural environment. Black and white Colobus, red tailed and parvet monkeys are other primates to be encountered during the nature walk. Back for lunch and proceed to the Queen Elizabeth national park which lies between Lake Edward on the west and lake George on the east and the Rwenzori mountains on the north. Have game drive in the evening as you enter park. Dinner and overnight at: Mweya safari lodge/ Makize valley lodge/ Ihamba safari lodge/ Enganzi lodge.

Day 12-Queen Elizabeth national park.

After breakfast, game drive in the northern side towards Lake George and Kasenyi Villege, you might see lions, elephants, buffaloes etc. back the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon have boat cruises from Mweya peninsula along Kazinga channel one of the most exciting popular sites in Uganda for its concentration of wildlife, elephants, hippos buffaloes taking water from the channel, and birds.

In the evening, transfer to the Ishasha sector of the park. Dinner and overnight at: Ishasha jungle lodge. Full board.

Day 13-Ishasha- Bwindi Impenetrable forest national.

After breakfast, have game drive in the search of tree climbing lions which are seen during the hot hours of the day.as they lie resting on branches of fig trees. Other wildlife include, elephants, buffaloes and many more. Lunch and proceed to tropical rain forests of Bwindi impenetrable which are the natural habitat for the of up endangered mountain gorillas. You will reach at an altitude of up to 2300m above sea level.

The choice of the area of the gorilla safari depends on the availability and allocation of the permits for this activity. Overnight and dinner at: Bwindi engage lodge/gorilla safari lodge/Bakiga lodge/Ichumbi lodge. Transfer is variable, according to the location of gorilla permits and road conditions.

DAY 14-Mountain gorilla safari.

In the morning you enter the rain tropical forest of Bwindi for the gorilla Safari. The activity starts at 8;00 am in a group of maximum of 8 people with the help of ranger guide as you search the habituated family of mountain gorillas that was allocated according to the permits. Bwindi forest has a population of about 370 gorillas, which is a half of the world population. According to 2007 gorilla population surveys, it is not predictable the time you will spend to encounter the gorillas. You have 1 hour for observing the primates and their behaviors and taking photographs. Ensure you take the parked lunch and water, and for this you might need the support of the available porters. Dinner and overnight at; Bwindi Engaji lodge/ gorilla safari lodge or Bakiga lodge/ Ichumbi lodge. Full board.

DAY 15-Batwa trail-lake Mburo national park.

After breakfast, optional, you can enjoy a walk in the nature of Ichuya forest, to encounter the Batwa pigmy’s and learn about their history traditions and culture. Lunch. In the afternoon Proceed to Lake Mburo national park, the smallest of the Ugandan national park, as you enter, go for game drive in search for beautiful Empalas, elands, Topi and many antelopes, buffalo and zebras. Dinner and overnight at; Rwakobo rock/ Mantana Mburo tented camp, Acadia cottages Mburo/ Mpongo lodge. Full board.

DAY 16-Lake Mburo- Entebbe.

After the last game drive in the park [or optional nature walk in the park], the journey ends back to Entbbe. Lunch in the route. Reserved for the departure from Entebbe international airport.

Itinerary Extention

You may choose to extend your safari package with these activities

1. Ssese islands in lake Victoria

Full board. After breakfast drive to Ssese islands on Lake Victoria. The road goes via Masaka crossing to Bugala island and arrival in the afternoon lunch in the route. Dinner and overnight at Brovad sands lodge.

2. Explore Ssese islands

Full board. After breakfast and briefing from the guide the resort will organize for you a half day trip by boat to explore other islands of the archipelago. You will have a stopover to see birds and forested islands. You should carry sun cream protection, hat and repellent. Return to Bugala for lunch. Afternoon at leisure, dinner and overnight at Brovad Sunds lodge.

3. On the beach at Bugala island.

Full board. You may relax on the Sundy beach and swim on the lake or in the swimming pool of the hotel. However you can also choose among many optional activities offered by the resort, like sport fishing, guided nature walk to explore other areas of the island where you will find Stanely fort and the traditional sites of the Baganda, or you can have a guided bicycle tour. Full board at Brovad Sunds lodge.
