The reserve protects a network of forest perimeter wetlands that support some 40 mammals and at least150 bird species. This is one of the best places in Africa to look for elusive sitatunga, a semi-aquatic antelope with webbed hooves that hunts in swamps. Also visible are elephants, waterbuck, reedbuck, colobus monkeys and river otter. The 211sq km reserve, only developed recently for tourism can best be explored on foot. Its located 200km west of Kampala.
